Working with Title Lists

Title lists allow you to gather and use information from your search results. You can select titles from your search results list and save, print, and send information by e-mail about the titles. When you save, print, or send the title list, you have the following citation format choices:

Important:
For bibliographic formats, always check the requirements of your school, college, or journal. You may need to edit the format to match their specific requirements.

If you choose brief or full bibliographic display, you can also choose to include local or system availability information.

If you save a title list, you can import it to your word processor to use in a research paper. Printing a title list gives you a convenient reference to find several items on the library shelves. If you send the title list by e-mail, you can open it in a word processor at your convenience.

Tip:
You can develop a virtual shelf list of the call numbers for items that interest you in a selected library. Do a browse search of the call number index for the library, select titles from the results, and add them to a title list. Include local availability information in the title list to list the call numbers. See "Browse a call number index" for more information.

This unit covers the following topics:

Objective: Create and edit a title list

Follow these steps to build a title list from search results and edit it, if necessary. (Refer to "Basic Searching" for more information about launching a search and viewing the results.)

  1. In the search results display, locate the title you want to add to the title list, and click Add to Title List.

The title is added to the My Titles list in the left pane of the window. The border of the title list flashes a contrasting color momentarily to signal that a title has been added. In the search results display, the note Added to Title List appears in the brief information about the title.

  2. Repeat step 1 until you are done adding titles to the title list.
